I dropped $500 on Houzz leads thinking it'd get me some solid custom cabinet gigs, but all I got were cheapskates wanting Kreg pocket hole fixes for their IKEA hacks. Those leads are a total scam for us carpenters chasing real woodworking projects. Stick to local networking instead of that BS.

Houzz is screwing every small carpentry shop out there, total ripoff.

Z
ZapMaster3⚒️ Journeyman1mo

R
RodentRider⚒️ Journeyman1mo
11
every carpenter i know hates those lead gen sites.
S
SparkleSteve⚒️ Journeyman1mo
15
it's like they don't even screen for serious clients.
S
SpraySavant2⚒️ Journeyman1mo

P
PickMaster⚒️ Journeyman1mo
11
angi is the worst, full of tire kickers.
S
SprayMaster⚒️ Journeyman1mo
9

B
BoltTightener⚒️ Journeyman1mo
25

G
GarageGuru9⚒️ Journeyman1mo
9
thumbtack banned me after i complained about fake leads.
B
BugBusterJoe3⚒️ Journeyman1mo
10
that's bullshit, they do that to anyone who calls them out.
L
LeakHunterPro2⚒️ Journeyman1mo
11
yeah, lost $200 there on pest jobs that went nowhere.
F
FumeFighter⚒️ Journeyman1mo
14
stick to word of mouth, it's free and actually works.
K
KeyMasterKate⚒️ Journeyman1mo
10
free is right, but hard to scale without some marketing.
G
GreenThumbGuru3⚒️ Journeyman1mo
11
NGL, i tried it once and got one decent deck job out of 10 leads.
L
LawnLizard4⚒️ Journeyman1mo
16
lucky you, i got zero from mine.
D
DustBunnyHunter10⚒️ Journeyman1mo
22
it's all the same corporate greed piling on us trades.
C
CircuitSurfer5⚒️ Journeyman1mo
15
furious about how they price gouge small operators like us.
L
LawnLordLee⚒️ Journeyman1mo
9
exactly, big companies eat the cost but we get crushed.

been burned by homeadvisor, same story every time.
S
SawdustSavant6⚒️ Journeyman1mo
22
homeadvisor is a joke for cabinet work especially.
B
BlowerBoss⚒️ Journeyman1mo
28
haha, at least you only lost 500, i blew 2k before i quit.
L
LockoutLou⚒️ Journeyman1mo
12
customer called from a houzz lead wanting free advice on door installs, what a clown.
H
HammerTimeHero4⚒️ Journeyman1mo
14
i feel ya, those leads are 90% no-shows or lowballers.
D
DrainDiver4⚒️ Journeyman1mo
13
damn right, and the ones that call are measuring your time for free.
R
RollerRanger7⚒️ Journeyman1mo

every time i see a houzz ad i just scroll past now.
P
PipeLord42011⚒️ Journeyman1mo

houzz reps act like their leads are gold, total liars.
S
SparkJockey3⭐ Expert1mo

lie is right, they promise qualified but deliver randos.
O
OpenerOperator2⚒️ Journeyman1mo
9
use facebook groups instead, way better for local carpenter referrals.
R
RollerRogue3⚒️ Journeyman1mo
15
facebook marketplace has worked for me on trim jobs.
J
JointJockey⚒️ Journeyman1mo
7
skip the paid crap, build a simple website and seo it yourself.
R
RidgeRunner⚒️ Journeyman1mo
11
SEO takes time, but yeah cheaper than those lead fees.
A
ACAvenger3⚒️ Journeyman1mo

sharktank fittings are overrated, but lead gen is way worse.
S
ShingleShark9⚒️ Journeyman1mo
11
disagree, at least sharkbites save time on emergencies.
W
WireWhizKid⭐ Expert1mo
15
for cabinets, nothing beats good old door hangers in neighborhoods.
S
ShingleShuffler⭐ Expert1mo
12
i hear that, handed out 200 last week and got two calls.
B
BoltBreaker3⚒️ Journeyman1mo

door hangers still work? thought that was old school.
W
WireWizardWalt⭐ Expert1mo

old school wins, especially for custom woodworking gigs.

wasted a ton on nextdoor ads, same problem.
W
WrenchWanderer2⚒️ Journeyman1mo

nextdoor is hit or miss, but cheaper than houzz.
C
CircuitSurfer4⚒️ Journeyman1mo
14
miss mostly, got a weird request for a birdhouse once.
V

houzz is just another bloodsucking lead scam, they lock you into contracts and deliver crap leads like that birdhouse nonsense while pocketing your cash.
R
RatRacer⚒️ Journeyman1mo

houzz leads? more like payin $500 to chase your tail after a squirrel. i got one for a 'custom doghouse' once, spent the whole weekend buildin it only to find out the dog's allergic to wood 😂. stick to yard signs and word of mouth, saves the headache. now im laughin about it over a beer, but damn that stung at the time.
S
SawdustSavant10⚒️ Journeyman1mo
25
birdhouses? that's funny, at least it was cheap materials.
L
LeakLurker⚒️ Journeyman1mo

C

stick to FB groups and nextdoor for cabinet leads, i've landed three $10k jobs this year just from posting finished installs there with no lead fees.

what's your take on angi's new pricing? worth it?
V
V7429🔧 Apprentice1mo

angi's new pricing is straight up BS, i signed up as a newbie and got zero decent leads for custom cabinets after dropping $200, just a bunch of tire-kickers who ghost ya.
V
VoltVampire⚒️ Journeyman1mo
6
angi? hell no, stick to free methods.
D
DrainDiver6⚒️ Journeyman1mo

houzz leads are a total scam, they send you the same tired shoppers who ghost after you quote em $8k for custom cabinets while the site rakes in fees.
D
DustBunnySlayer3⚒️ Journeyman1mo
17
saw a post in carpenters of america about ditching paid leads altogether.
W
WireWhiz2⚒️ Journeyman1mo
2
yeah man, dumped $400 on houzz leads last year for some kitchen remodels and got jack squat, total BS.
R
RoofRat7⚒️ Journeyman1mo

good call, that group has solid advice on local marketing.
H
HammerTimeVet⚒️ Journeyman1mo

houzz leads are a straight up scam for cabinet work, burned through $500 last year chasing ghosts who ghosted me right back. guy i know lost a grand before he woke up and ditched it for local fb groups. dont waste your cash there, stick to what actually brings in real jobs. you'll thank me when your wallet's still fat.
