Sick of chasing payments from GCs as a sub on cabinet jobs

I'm a carpenter subbing out mostly for custom cabinet installs and trim work, and these general contractors are killing me with late payments. Last month I finished a full kitchen remodel with maple cabinets and shaker doors for one of their projects, billed $8k through Joist, and it's been 60 days with nothing but excuses about 'waiting on the owner.' We're in the greater Atlanta area where everyone's always in a rush on these new builds but nobody pays on time. I saw a similar rant in the Contractors Network FB group, guys saying to always get a lien waiver signed before starting. Tried switching to ServiceTitan for better tracking but it ain't helping if they just ignore the invoices. At this point I'm thinking of adding a 1.5% late fee but half these GCs would flip. Anyone else dealing with this crap?

GCs are the worst, had one stiff me on a deck framing job for three months straight.

How'd you finally get paid?

What software are you using to send reminders? I need something better than email.

Housecall Pro has auto reminders, but they still ignore em.

File the lien, it's your only leverage.

Liens work but eat up time I could be on site.

Feel that, subs always at the bottom of the payment chain.

PE-backed GCs are even worse, they got deep pockets but drag their feet.

Switch to flat rate contracts with 50% upfront, cuts the BS.

Use QuickBooks for liens, templates are solid and track everything.

Proud to say I finally got a GC to pay after threatening small claims, $12k on a barn door project.

Don't sub without a solid contract, saw a guy lose his truck over an unpaid remodel.
