Walked into this crap-show of a deck rebuild today where the homeowner thought he could frame it himself with pocket screws and some cheap pressure-treated lumber from Home Depot. Me and the boys spent the first two hours just demoing his half-assed joists because they weren't even level, let alone sistered properly. Saw a post on r/woodworking about using Festool Dominos for better alignment, but damn if that wouldn't have saved us time here. The guy's insisting on keeping costs down, but now we're reinforcing every post with Simpson Strong-Tie brackets just to make it code-safe. By lunch, my back was screaming from hauling 2x10s around, and the rain decided to piss on our parade right when we were hanging the ledger board. These weekend warriors think they're saving money, but they end up paying double to fix the mess. Someone in the Contractors Network Facebook group was ranting about the same thing last week, total BS. Gonna be a long afternoon.

Nailed a perfect pergola install last week using all cedar and stainless hardware, came out so clean the client tipped extra. Felt good for once.

Sounds sweet, but I bet you had to fight the inspector on the footing depths anyway.

Hate those jobs where you gotta undo everything just to start over, killed my whole schedule yesterday on a similar porch fiasco.

Tell me about it, but using birdsmouth cuts properly from the get-go could've prevented half of it.

SharkBite fittings are for plumbing hacks, but in carpentry, pocket holes are fine for shop work, not outdoor framing. Fight me.

Ugh, feel that back pain from here. Those DIY decks are the worst kind of headache.
