Been framing houses as a solo carpenter in rural Ohio for 15 years, and now I'm staring down retirement with barely $50k socked away from all those lean winters. I track everything in QuickBooks but never set aside enough for the 401k match my accountant keeps pushing. Damn, wish I'd started earlier with some side gigs like custom cabinet installs to pad the nest egg.

it's the same damn story for all of us non-union guys in ohio, slaving away framing houses while those corporate fat cats in columbus gut our pension plans and leave us high and dry. i've seen too many old timers end up broke because the system's rigged against solo operators like us. fuck that noise, we should've unionized years ago to stick it to the bastards.

don't wait another year to start that 401k, i saw a couple old framers in ohio end up broke and scraping by on nothing after their pensions got slashed under that MPRA crap.

switched to side gigs building custom face frame cabinets three years back and it doubled my savings rate, now i've got over 100k tucked away. wish i'd started sooner but damn, it's feelin good to watch that nest egg grow.

those damn winters in rural ohio always screw us solo guys over, wiping out any chance at building a real retirement fund while big corps rake in the profits. quickbooks aint worth shit if the economy keeps tanking our gigs, and dont get me started on the banks charging an arm for loans to even try catching up. its bullshit how the system leaves us carpenters high and dry after busting our asses for decades.

Frustrated as hell with the same thing, poured everything into my table saw upgrades and now my IRAs are a joke after 20 years swinging a hammer.
