Man, trying to keep track of all these permit fees for custom cabinet installs in my bookkeeping is a total pain, especially when I quoted $4500 for the whole kitchen remodel using Festool Domino joiners. I watched that Essential Craftsman video on accurate record-keeping for trades, and it got me thinking - anyone got a simple way to log these without QuickBooks eating my soul? Last month alone, I blew $800 on permits for three jobs, and the paperwork is killing my vibe. NGL, it's making me second-guess going solo on these big builds.
goddamn permits and quickbooks are the real thieves in this trade, bleeding us dry while we bust our asses on builds like that.

screw quickbooks, its a bloated mess for us solo guys - just use a damn spreadsheet to log those permit fees and skip the soul-sucking software altogether.

quickbooks is like that ex who promises to organize your life but just leaves you with more receipts to sort. stick with a notebook for permits, i hide mine in the toolbox so they dont haunt my dreams lol

Haha, yeah, I started scanning everything with my phone and dumping it into a Google Drive folder - at least it's searchable when tax time hits.

try quickbooks online for dumping those scans right into invoices, cuts my tax prep time in half every year.

Festool's great, but don't let the shiny tools distract from the boring book stuff.

Switch to something like FreshBooks for bookkeeping - it auto-categorizes permit expenses and spits out reports in seconds, saved me hours last quarter.

Fuck that, I tried FreshBooks and the subscription jumped to $50/month after the trial - back to spreadsheets for me, permits or not.
