Been running a referral program for my custom cabinet installs for the last two years, offering $100 gift cards for every lead that books. Started strong but now I'm getting buried in lowball expectations from folks who think they're entitled to freebies because their buddy referred them. Last week, a referral turned into a nightmare when the client demanded I match a Home Depot quote on shaker-style cabinets using pre-fab crap instead of my Kreg pocket hole joinery setup. Word spreads quick in this biz, and one bad review from a referral chain can poison your whole network. Stick to simple thank-yous or discounts on the next job to avoid this mess. Don't let referrals bite you in the ass like they did me.

damn, had the same crap happen with a referral who lowballed my whole trim install expectin me to use cheap mdf instead of real oak, pissed me off so bad i just told em to shop elsewhere and kiss my referrals goodbye.

ha, next time just hand out kreg jigs as referral gifts, at least then theyll know what real joinery looks like before lowballing ya 😂

those cheapass referral clients are the WORST, always showin up expectin handouts while we're bustin our asses for quality work. screw em, they ruin the whole game for real customers who appreciate the craft.

god damn referrals sound great on paper but they always turn into these entitled assholes expecting the world for nothing. had one guy refer his neighbor and then bitch when i wouldnt redo his whole frameless setup for free.

exactly, these referral chains are a joke. we all know one pissed off client can tank months of good work with a single yelp rant.

Try tying referrals to completed jobs only, and cap the incentive at something small like 10% off materials for the referrer. Keeps it clean without the drama. Works for my trim work gigs.
