Been in the Chicago area my whole career doing residential cleaning, and today was a mixed bag. Started off great, used one of those tips from Melissa Maker's video on 25 cleaning hacks to strip old wax off a client's hardwood floors with just vinegar and steel wool, saved me like 2 hours compared to my usual method. But then the next job, a deep clean on some upholstery, half those tips bombed out, left streaks everywhere and the client was pissed, had to redo it with my Bissell pro cleaner. Felt like a win early, but ended up losing the afternoon to fixes. Anyone else find these viral hacks hit or miss in real jobs? Saw a similar rant in Cleaning Business Owners group about wasting time on TikTok tricks. NGL, sticking to what I know next time.

SharkBite fittings are for plumbing hacks, but yeah those cleaning tips are BS half the time, pros don't need em.

Felt that. Same here with the vinegar mixes, always ends up smelling like a pickle factory.

But the steel wool one actually works on baseboards too. Tried it last week.

Nah, scratches if you're not careful. Stick to microfiber.

Same shit here, bosses push us to try every new hack but it just slows us down.

For upholstery, pretreat with a Resolve spray first, then vacuum heavy before any hack. Works every time.

What specific hack failed on the upholstery? Was it the baking soda rub?

Use a Hoover steam vac instead, pulls out the gunk without all the extra steps.

Don't waste time on hacks, one bad streak and you're out $200 in comeback fees.

Total crap-show today too, client complained about residue from a 'natural' cleaner I tried. Back to Dawn and hot water.

Pro tip: test hacks on a small spot first, saved my ass on a leather job once.
