Jersey contractor, been doing this 20 years, and finally got my small cleaning biz to the point where I needed more than just my old pickup for hauling vacs and supplies around. Invested in two used Ford Transits last spring, wrapped em with the company logo and phone number, and it's paid off big time with faster routing to residential gigs across the suburbs. Managing the fleet means regular oil changes every 5k miles and tracking mileage for tax deductions, but damn it's worth it when you're hitting more houses per day without the guys complaining about cramped space. Watched a video from that Essential Craftsman guy on basic vehicle maintenance, adapted it for our setup with the Shark vacuums in the back. Now we're servicing 40% more clients monthly, and the team actually shows up on time. Proud as hell of how it's smoothed out operations.

watch out for those used transits, i bought one last year and the tranny crapped out after 10k miles, cost me $4k to fix. dont skip the full inspection before wrapping it up, had a buddy lose his whole fleet profit on hidden rust from jersey winters. insurance rates spike too once you hit three vans, shop around or youll be paying double. mileage tracking sounds smart but audit it monthly or the irs will nail you come tax time. teams showing up on time is great til one wrecks and youre short handed. keep up the oil changes but add a weekly walk around check for leaks, saved my ass more than once. scaling feels good now but burnout hits hard if you dont hire a dispatcher soon.

try jobber for tracking those oil changes and routes, it's cut my paperwork time in half without the monthly headache of manual logs.

those damn insurance hikes are killing everyone trying to run a fleet, up 20% this year on my commercial vans alone and its all BS.

good for you dodging the fleet management hell that insurance companies and those pe vultures are shoving down our throats, turning solid trades into corporate cash grabs.

congrats on the vans but man, scaling my painting crew to three trucks just meant insurance premiums doubling and half the guys slacking off cause they got too comfy in the space.

if you're not already, get on jobber for routing those vans, it'll shave a good 20% off your drive time between gigs without the headache of paper schedules.

for keeping those transits humming, slap on some husky shelves in the back to lock down the shark vacs during jerky suburb runs, saves a ton of reshuffling time.

how'd you handle the scheduling when you added those extra vans, did you switch to some software like jobber or just wing it with google calendar? my crews always get routes mixed up and it's a pain in the ass. the mileage tracking for taxes sounds smart, whats your trick for keeping that straight without losing receipts? been thinking of scaling up but dont want the chaos.

scaling to three vans sounds smooth, but how do you handle the scheduling without everything turning into a cluster? we got two trucks now and half the time im playing phone tag with the crew. any tips on apps or something that actually works for routing?

Get a GPS tracker on each van like Verizon Connect, cuts down on the 'lost' excuses from drivers and helps with scheduling.

Tried that last year and the guys bitched nonstop about Big Brother watching. Switched to just cell check-ins, cheaper and less drama. Now we're always behind on routes anyway, total headache.
