Came across this reel from thehonestcontractor on Instagram, tip #1 about growing as an electrical contractor, and it got me thinking about my fleet situation. Been in the Chicago area my whole career, dealing with these damn rust belts on my service vans from all the salt in winter. I run two Ford Transit vans loaded with Milwaukee M18 tools, wire spools, and panel upgrades, but maintenance is killing me, especially after that last alternator replacement on the main one cost me a full day off the road. The tip talks about scaling vehicles smartly, but with electric jobs piling up, like 200A service upgrades, I need more rigs without going broke. Someone in Electricians Network FB group mentioned leasing, but I'm skeptical about the mileage limits for all the suburban runs. AFAIK, buying used and wrapping them myself has been the way, but prices are up 20% this year. Anyone else feeling this squeeze?
Lease if you can swing it, gets you newer vans with warranties and tax write-offs on the payments.

Warranties are BS half the time, had a leased Transit seize up at 40k miles and the dealer dragged their feet for weeks.

Hit 150k miles on my third wrapped Transit last month, still going strong with regular oil changes and avoiding city lots. Proud of keeping costs down while scaling to three vans.

Insurance premiums for fleet vehicles are insane right now, up 30% across the board thanks to these PE roll-ups jacking rates.

Just traded in my old F-150 for a Sprinter, saved a ton on gas for long hauls but the upfront hit my cash flow hard. FML.
