Watched this YouTube vid on passing the journeyman electrical exam with practice NEC questions, and the guy explaining Article 210.8 for GFCI protection had me dying laughing because it reminded me of my own test fail last year. Charged $800 to fix a subpanel that some DIYer botched with no separated neutrals, all because they skipped the basics this video covers. Klein tools in hand, I fixed it quick but damn, wish I'd seen this before my exam.

same here, failed my first try on some dumb 430 motor calc question. felt like an idiot.
N

what was the worst question you missed? mine was all about transformer sizing.
C
ChillChampion⚒️ Journeyman2mo
7
how many practice tests did you run through before passing?

screw the exam boards, they make it way harder than real jobs like panel upgrades.

just slap in a Square D QO and call it good, exams are BS.
F
FlushMaster500⭐ Expert2mo
35
nah, that QO premium costs extra but saves headaches later.
S

true, but exams force you to know why, not just how.

T

L

W

B
BoxBoss⚒️ Journeyman1mo

get yourself the ugly's electrical references book, its got all the formulas and code lookups tabbed out so you aint fumblin pages mid-exam.

i feel that, exams test memorization over skill.
M
MulchMan2⚒️ Journeyman1mo
0
yeah man, memorizin all that NEC crap for the journeyman exam felt like straight torture when you're just tryin to wire panels on the job. shoulda focused more on the real-world hacks instead of all those gotcha questions. been there, and it pissed me off how little it actually helped once i was out slingin wire.
R
RoofRat876⚒️ Journeyman1mo
10
those NEC exams are a total BS filter that don't mean squat for real jobs, just wasted my weekends memorizin crap i'd never use. pissed me off when i realized half the inspectors don't even follow it half the time.
F
FrameFreak8⚒️ Journeyman1mo

bro, same here, that nec memorization bs had me pullin my hair out durin exam week. felt like i was learnin theory just to forget it all once i was back on the job slingin wire.
P

those damn nec exams are a total scam designed to keep us apprentices slavin away while the big unions rake in the fees, screw that noise.

F

hit up the nec 250 section on electrodes before the test, its got all the gotchas on rod depth and resistance measurements.
