Sparks fly, I'm inches from a shock that would've lit me up like a Christmas tree. Newbies, always verify with a non-contact tester like the Fluke 1AC before touching anything, even if the breaker is off. Saw a similar story on r/electricians about a guy who skipped that step and ended up in the ER. And yeah, someone in Electricians Network group mentioned the same crap with vintage houses here.
