north jersey near miss with a milwaukee drill that coulda been bad

so im up in north jersey, zone 5 winters hittin hard, wiring up a subpanel in this old colonial yesterday. had my milwaukee m18 drill set on high speed, goin for a 3/4 inch romex pull through a joist, and the bit catches on a hidden nail from some hack carpenter. drill kicks back hard, nearly takes my thumb off, but i let go quick enough. charged the homeowner $850 to fix the whole mess plus the panel upgrade to square d qo breakers. saw a similar story on r/electricians last week, guy in the electricians network facebook group said he dropped his tools after that. watched a dustin stelzer video on electrician u about ppe after, defintely steppin up my gloves now. NGL, heart was poundin, coulda been a hospital trip.

man that sounds too close for comfort, been there with a kickback on a fish tape.

never drill without locatin first, coulda fried the whole circuit.

felt that adrenaline rush myself last month.
