Man, I always try to upsell those Square D QO AFCI breakers on every main panel upgrade job, but customers just balk at the extra $200-300 it adds to the quote. I've been quoting $4500 for a full 200A service upgrade with basic breakers, but when I push the AFCIs for bedroom circuits per NEC 210.12, they act like I'm trying to rob them. NGL, it's frustrating when they go cheap and I know it'll bite them later.

Haha, just tell em the AFCI saved your buddy's house from turning into a bonfire last week.

Bundle it with a surge protector install. I add $150 for whole home surge and it makes the AFCI seem like a steal.

This is why I hate upselling now. Spent 30 min explaining code to a guy yesterday and he still went with the Home Depot special breakers. Wasted my time.

Don't push too hard on the first quote. Wait til inspection fails without it, then upsell the fix for double.

Solid advice, but in my area inspectors overlook it half the time. YMMV.

Yeah, had that happen on a flip house. Saved the client $400 but now they're calling me back for arcs tripping everything.

Customers don't get it until their insurance rates skyrocket after a claim. I just walk away from the cheapos now.

Ugh, lost a $5k job last month over refusing to skip the AFCIs. Not worth the liability headache.

I'm with you, upselling should be easy with all the fire stories out there but nope, penny pinchers everywhere.
