So I set up this referral thing where if a past customer sends me a buddy needing a panel upgrade or some 240V work, they get a $50 Home Depot gift card. Thought it was genius after seeing that Dustin Stelzer vid on Electrician U about building networks. First referral comes in from a guy I wired his garage for last month, says his neighbor needs outlets added in the kitchen. I show up, turns out the 'neighbor' is his ex-wife who's still pissed about the divorce, and now she's demanding I redo her whole damn service entrance for free because 'referral.' Had to explain NEC code 230.40 ain't bendable, but she wouldn't budge. Meanwhile, the referrer is blowing up my phone apologizing. NGL, I laughed my ass off later, but damn, referrals can be a crapshoot. Anyone got a foolproof way to vet these without killing the vibe? Saw a similar story on r/electricians too.
