I'm out in the Chicago area hitting up realtors and general contractors with cold emails about our referral program for panel upgrades and EV charger installs. We offer $150 per successful referral, but with material costs through the roof on 200A panels and all these NEC code 210.8 updates, I'm barely breaking even after the payout. Anyone else seeing the same BS where the referral kickback eats into your already slim margins on jobs like this?
man, i feel your pain on those referral cuts, its like giving away half the job before you even start wiring.

yeah, and dont get me started on the re work when their referrals bring in cheap flips that need full rewires. cut my last one by 20% just to keep the relationship.

try tying the referral bonus to the job size, like 100 flat for small stuff under 5k but 250 for bigger panel swaps. keeps it fair without gutting your take.

solid idea, ive been doing 125 base plus 10% of profit over 2k. worked for my last three electrician referrals.

bundle it with a free consult on arc fault breakers to sweeten the deal without dropping your rate.

hit 200k this year mostly from referrals on commercial lighting retrofits, structured mine as tiered bonuses based on job value and it paid off big time.

screw these realtors, they push for the lowest bid then ghost you on the referral payout half the time.

exactly, had one stiff me on 200 bucks last month after a full service entrance cable run. total BS in this market.

same here in the burbs, chasing those payments is worse than pulling permits.

tried a new script for cold calls yesterday and the guy hung up mid-sentence about our 225A service upgrades. what a crap-show.

cold outreach to builders for EV installs, one laughed and said id never beat home depot prices. had the last laugh when their job went tits up.

hate how these programs turn into begging contests, especially when youre already quoting 4k for a basic 42-space subpanel.

track every referral lead in housecall pro and only pay out after the job closes and you collect. saved me from a few deadbeats last year.
