Just got hit with a $4k jump in my workers comp insurance because of all the 200A service upgrades I've been doing this year. We're in north Jersey where every old house needs the work, but these rates are BS with the risk of shocks and falls. Anyone else seeing their liability skyrocket on electrical jobs like this?

Shop around for carriers, I switched to Progressive Commercial last year and saved 25% on my comp coverage for similar resi wiring jobs.

Haha, tell me about it, my premiums went up after one apprentice nicked a live wire and I had to file a near-miss report. Now I'm the one getting shocked by the bill.

Near-miss reports are a double-edged sword, they protect you long-term but yeah, the insurance vultures pounce on anything.

Insurance companies are screwing every trade right now, especially us electricians with all the code changes forcing more inspections and potential claims. It's collective theft.

Preach, my GL went up 40% just because of 'rising litigation' they say. Total scam.

Same here man, been dealing with the exact crap on my subpanel installs. Feels like we're paying for their yachts.

This is why I went LLC and pushed all risk to subs on bigger jobs, but still, the base premiums are outrageous for electrical work.

Don't skimp on the coverage though, had a buddy get sued over a faulty GFCI install and it wiped him out without proper insurance. Play it safe and eat the cost.
