man i just started helping on some small wiring jobs and grabbed a Klein CL800 thinking it'd make me look pro. charged the homeowner $75 to check a flickering light circuit but i hooked it up wrong and got a weird reading, now they think the whole outlets bad. anyone got tips for newbies on these meters before i mess up another one?

homeowners always lowball us on these basic checks, then act shocked when it's more. screw em.

don't ever trust a cheap meter reading without double-checking with your eyes and nose first. saved my ass from a bad diag last week.

lol i once used a klein wrong and told the customer their dryer was fine. it caught fire next day. FML.

been there as a newbie, these clamp meters can be tricky if you don't zero em out right. feels good knowing others mess up too.

for clamp meters, always clamp around one conductor only. klein has good instructions in the manual.
S

20
these cheap jobs turn into headaches when you misread, just upcharge for the diag next time.

step 1: make sure it's set to AC current. step 2: clamp tight but not crushing the wire.

try the fluke 375 instead if klein gives you grief. more reliable for beginners.
