Been running my own electrical outfit for 8 years now and upselling is the name of the game for keeping the trucks full. Last week I was in fixing a busted 240V dryer outlet with my Klein multimeter when the homeowner mentioned wanting to add some Nest thermostats. I threw in a quick pitch for running Cat6 to prep for future smart lights, using those Leviton Decora smart switches we've been installing alot. Explained how it ties into the main panel without needing a subpanel upgrade right away. Saw a similar thread on r/electricians where guys were debating Ring doorbells vs wired setups, and it got me thinking. Guy in Electricians Network FB group swore by upselling surge protection too, but I'm still figuring out the best script without sounding pushy. Anyone got a go-to line that converts 50% of the time?

Just bundle it with the service call fee and show em the app demo on your phone.

I upsell AV installs like crazy, but only after testing the grounds with my Fluke 87. Had a job where I added Sonos wiring for $800 extra, customer loved it.

Sonos is solid, but do you quote it flat rate or T&M?

Flat rate always, keeps em from nickel and diming.

Upselling fails when they DIY the basics first, then call you for the mess. Stick to NEC code 210.8 compliant stuff.

Watched Electrician U vid on this, upsell by solving pain points like WiFi dead zones first.
