Licensing BS cost me $800 on a simple Square D panel swap job

Dropped $800 on renewing my master electrician cert just to sign off on a basic Square D panel upgrade, and the damn inspector still nitpicked the neutral-ground bond. Feel like I'm throwing cash away on paperwork that doesn't make me any safer on the job. NGL, saw a similar rant in Electricians Network group about how these certs are just a money grab for the state.

File it under business expenses on your Schedule C, deducts against that panel job income no problem.

Yeah but in my state they audit those deductions like hawks. Better keep receipts for every cert class.

Fuck the licensing boards, they're squeezing us dry while DIYers wire houses with extension cords.

Tell me about it, my buddy got fined $2k for a lapsed cert on a commercial gig last year.

Skip the renewals at your peril, I knew a guy who lost his license over a $200 late fee and couldn't work for months.

Same here, that $800 hit hurts when you're solo and every buck counts on those resi calls.

It does, but I bundled mine with a Mike Holt online course and made the renewal painless.

Proud to say I knocked out my cert in one weekend with Electrician U videos, no regrets.

SharkBites need certs now? Nah, but seriously, licensing should cover real skills not endless fees. Fight the power.

Man, I feel your pain on those renewal costs, been there after a long season of 200A service upgrades.

These cert scams are killing small shops, PE firms are buying up licensed outfits left and right while we bleed.

Check with your local IBEW hall, sometimes they subsidize renewals for members to keep guys like us in the field.
