Licensing BS cost me $800 on a simple Square D panel swap job

Dropped $800 on renewing my master electrician cert just to sign off on a basic Square D panel upgrade, and the damn inspector still nitpicked the neutral-ground bond. Feel like I'm throwing cash away on paperwork that doesn't make me any safer on the job. NGL, saw a similar rant in Electricians Network group about how these certs are just a money grab for the state.

state's just raping us on these certs to fund their BS, had to drop 600 on mine last month and the inspector's still a picky asshole.

shop around for that cert renewal online, i saved $150 last time by bundling with a nec code update course instead of going direct to the state. makes the BS a little less painful without skimping on the knowledge.

yeah man, inspectors nitpickin the bond is like payin $800 just so they can play electrician for free while i sip coffee.

for that neutral-ground bond nitpick, double-check the lug torque to 20 in-lbs per nec and label it clearly, saves you the re-inspect hassle every time.

man, that licensing racket is straight up robbery, costs me a couple hundred every year just to keep my certs current and half the time inspectors still give me grief over bullshit like that bond. been there more times than i can count, feels like were funding their coffee breaks. total BS how it doesnt make the work any safer but drains the wallet. cant wait til i retire and leave all this paperwork behind.

try filing a joint intent with the inspector ahead of time to avoid the bond nitpicks, saved me two callbacks last year. cuts down on the BS if you document the square d setup per nec 250.24.

what state are you in where they still hassle over the neutral-ground bond after a simple square d swap?

screw the state, just sub out to a buddy with a lapsed cert for these panel swaps and pocket that $800, inspectors never check deep enough to care.

man, i spent $500 on a cert renewal just to tell the inspector his coffee mug was the real hazard on site. now he owes me a buck for the laugh.

yeah, spent $600 on my renewal last month just to get nitpicked on a 240V circuit in a 100-year-old house, states pure money grab and it pisses me off.

damn right, these cert renewals are just the states way of squeezin every last dime outta us while inspectors play gotcha on the dumbest shit.

try bundlin your cert renewals with a multi-year plan, saved me about $200 last time on the fees and inspectors barely even check that bond anymore if you use the square d egs ground bar kit right.

File it under business expenses on your Schedule C, deducts against that panel job income no problem.

Yeah but in my state they audit those deductions like hawks. Better keep receipts for every cert class.

Fuck the licensing boards, they're squeezing us dry while DIYers wire houses with extension cords.

Tell me about it, my buddy got fined $2k for a lapsed cert on a commercial gig last year.

Skip the renewals at your peril, I knew a guy who lost his license over a $200 late fee and couldn't work for months.

Same here, that $800 hit hurts when you're solo and every buck counts on those resi calls.

It does, but I bundled mine with a Mike Holt online course and made the renewal painless.

Proud to say I knocked out my cert in one weekend with Electrician U videos, no regrets.

SharkBites need certs now? Nah, but seriously, licensing should cover real skills not endless fees. Fight the power.

Man, I feel your pain on those renewal costs, been there after a long season of 200A service upgrades.

These cert scams are killing small shops, PE firms are buying up licensed outfits left and right while we bleed.

Check with your local IBEW hall, sometimes they subsidize renewals for members to keep guys like us in the field.
