Had a job last week swapping out a crusty old 100A panel for a new Square D QO setup, and the homeowner was all ears about adding some smart features. I mentioned integrating a Ring doorbell and Nest thermostat into the works, but kept it casual like 'hey, while we're here, this would tie right in with the new circuits.' Figured why not upsell a bit since the walls are already open? Ended up adding a few low-voltage runs for their AV system too, using Cat6 for everything. Gotta love when they bite without me having to hard sell. Anyone got a go-to line for slipping in those extras on electrical jobs? NGL, it's hit or miss but pays off when it lands.

man, i feel that hit or miss crap every time i try slipping in some cat6 runs during a panel swap. had one last month where the homeowner just stared at me like i was speaking chinese after i mentioned tying in a ring setup, ended up walking away with nothing extra. its frustrating when theyre open to the upgrade but clam up the second you bring up low voltage. been there too many times, especially on those older homes where everything's a mess already. keeps you on your toes though, right?

man, i try that casual upsell line on panel jobs and half the time the homeowner freezes up like i just asked to rewire their whole damn soul, leaves me with zero extra bucks and walls still open.

whats your best line for bringing up the cat6 runs without them thinking its extra cost? im always worried theyll shut down the whole upsell.

man i try that casual upsell crap but half the time homeowners act like you're robbing them blind even when we're already tearing into the walls for the damn panel swap.

Try framing it as 'future-proofing' the house. Works every time on the tech-savvy ones. Mention how it saves them from calling you back in a year for the same damn thing.
