Subcontracting electrical work in rural areas is a crapshoot

Man, I've been subcontracting out some of the bigger service upgrades lately, like running 14/2 romex for those new 240V outlets in garages, but it's always a hassle finding reliable guys. Last job, the sub showed up late with half the tools and had to borrow my Fluke tester just to check voltages. I work mostly in rural Ohio, so travel time eats into the schedule and inspectors are sticklers about NEC code 210.8 for GFCIs. Feels like I'm babysitting more than running my own crew these days. Anyone else tired of chasing subs who ghost you mid-project?

i've built a solid network of five reliable electrician subs over the last decade by vetting them on small jobs first, and now they handle my rural upgrades without me lifting a finger.

try posting on the local Facebook groups for subs, i found a solid guy in rural ohio that way who always brings his own fluke and sticks to schedule.

same shit here in rural spots, subs show up late or ghost and youre left holding the bag on deadlines. babysittin grown men aint what i signed up for either.

those damn rural subs are the WORST, ghosting mid-job and leaving you to explain to the inspector why the GFCIs ain't up to code 210.8.

screw subcontracting in rural spots, just train up your own crew with a couple young bucks who actually show up on time instead of chasing those flaky ghosts.

try posting on the local facebook groups for trades, i snagged a solid apprentice last month who shows up every day. pays off better than chasing subs who ghost after the first job.

yeah, i had a sub ghost me on a panel upgrade in the middle of nowhere, left me scrambling with no 14/2 romex and the damn inspector breathing down my neck.

god, the subs around here ghosted me on a whole panel upgrade last month, left me hangin with the inspector breathin down my neck. had to scramble and finish it myself, which ate up two full days i didnt have. babysittin aint worth the hassle anymore, im done chasin flakes like that.

same shit here man, subcontracting electrical in rural spots is like herding cats half the time. i had a guy last month who swore he could handle a 200A service upgrade but showed up without his own conduit bender and tried to use pvc instead of emt like the plans called for. ended up borrowing my milwaukee kit just to get the bends right, and then he ghosts me two days in because 'truck broke down' or some bs. inspectors out here are no joke either, one wrong ground rod placement and theyre all over you. feels like im paying to train these clowns more than anything. you ever try lining up backups before even starting the job? tired of the whole chase too, its killing my schedule.

Built a solid sub network over 10 years by only using guys I've seen wire a full panel upgrade without shortcuts. Keeps my jobs on time and clients happy, no drama.

That's the dream, but good subs are unicorns. I've lost two contracts this year from flaky ones.

Subs are the devil. Fight me, but I'd rather pay overtime to my own guys than deal with their BS excuses.

Insurance companies love when you sub out, but then the claims skyrocket from their screwups. We're all getting hosed by these unreliable hacks.

Tell me about it, the whole industry's infested with subs who think bending conduit is optional. Time to union up or something.
