Had this job last month where the previous sparky half-assed a Square D panel upgrade, and now the homeowners are blaming me for the fire risk when I showed up to fix it. Filed an insurance claim thinking it'd cover the $4500 in parts and labor to redo everything per NEC 110.12, but the adjuster is dragging his feet and wants a full forensic report. Watched a Electrician U video on panel failures that nailed exactly this mess. Frustrated as hell, feels like I'm paying for someone else's screw-up.

get that forensic report done quick through a local inspector like intertek, they do solid NEC 110.12 breakdowns for around $800 and itll speed up the adjuster. had a similar mess last year and it got my claim paid in two weeks.

insurance adjusters move slower than a apprentice with a hangover, man. i once had a similar gig where the old panel was wired like a drunk spider, and the adjuster showed up demanding photos of every nut and bolt like i was running a crime scene. told the homeowner straight up, 'this aint my rodeo, but i'll fix it for $4500 if you wanna skip the circus.' ended up quoting em on a square d homeline replacement to get it done quick, but yeah, that forensic report bs is just them buying time to lowball ya. watched that same electrician u vid, spot on about those loose neutrals causing hell. laugh or cry, right? 😂 gotta love payin for the last guy's parade.

get that forensic report done quick, i use intertek for those and they turnaround in two weeks flat. insurance adjusters love when you hit em with a certified opinion on the square d defects like loose bus bars. last time i was in this spot, i quoted the full nec 110.12 remediation up front and attached photos of the arcing damage to speed things up. dont let the drag turn into a denial, push for a site visit with your electrician u notes as backup. if they still balk, small claims court has worked for me on a $3k claim once. mark up your labor at least 20% to cover the headache.

insurance adjusters are the WORST, i've been waiting three months on a similar claim for a qo breaker recall mess and they keep asking for more damn paperwork. it's all about padding their pockets while we eat the costs. screw this industry sometimes.

Fucking insurance companies and their BS excuses, every sparky I know has a story like this and it always screws the guy trying to do it right.
