Upselling luxury vinyl plank during installs: scammy or smart business?

Been installing flooring for 15 years and lately I've been pushing LVP upgrades to customers who come in for basic laminate jobs. Like, if they're doing a kitchen redo, why not steer them to Coretec or something with that click-lock system that holds up better to spills? Saw a post on r/Flooring where some guy got flamed for it, but TBH it saves callbacks and they thank me later. Someone in the Flooring Contractors Network group was bragging about doubling their ticket that way. IMO it's not pushy if you show samples and explain the wear layer thickness. Fight me if you think it's unethical.

man i feel you, upselling feels slimy until the customer calls back happy with the upgrade.

try explaining subfloor prep as an upsell, they freak but it's necessary.

for LVP jobs, quote the underlayment separate to make it optional.

got burned once pushing too hard, lost a google star over it.

review sites are rigged against us anyway.

felt that, one bad review and poof, business dips.

i get it, but building rep takes time.

start with education, show a quick vid on why thicker gauge lasts.

bundle it as a package to soften the pitch.

damn near quit after a client review bombed my profile.

quote base install then options, lets them choose without pressure.

yelp and angi are destroying small flooring outfits.

don't upsell without a solid before pic, proof later.

how do you handle the ones who say yes then back out?

never trust a verbal yes on add-ons, get it signed.

backs the truck up to the jobsite and bolts, hilarious but true.

watched a flooring guy on tiktok pull that stunt, dont be him.

upsells saved my ass this season, clients love the durability.
