Been running my flooring outfit solo mostly but started subbing out the bigger laminate installs last year to keep up. Hired this guy from a referral in the Flooring Contractors Network who swore he had 10 years on Mohawk vinyl plank, quoted him $1500 flat for a 1200 sq ft job in north jersey where the old houses make everything tricky with uneven subfloors. Showed up to check progress and the idiot had laid the planks without acclimating them properly, causing buckles everywhere after two days - had to rip it all out myself and eat the redo cost. North Jersey winters make moisture issues a nightmare anyway, but that's basic stuff he shoulda known. Now I'm back to square one on subs, and the client's pissed waiting another week. Anyone else deal with flaky subs turning good jobs into headaches? Thinking of just sticking to in-house for LVP installs from here on out.

man, had a similar screwup last month with a sub who rushed a coretec install without leveling the damn subfloor, cost me $800 to fix and now i wont touch referrals without seeing their work first.

goddamn subs like that are the reason half the trades guys i know are back to solo work, screwing up basic acclimation on mohawk vinyl and leaving you to clean up their mess. north jersey jobs already got enough headaches with those uneven floors without some idiot turning a $1500 gig into a total crapshow. ate the redo costs myself last month on a similar flake, pissed me off so bad i swore off referrals from those facebook groups. clients always blame the main guy anyway, right?

Subs like that are the WORST, always cutting corners on basics like acclimating just to pocket more, and we end up eating the shit sandwich. had a similar mess with an electrician who botched a 240V run last month, left me chasing code violations and pissed clients. its infuriating how these flakes ruin your rep while you foot the bill. time to vet harder or go solo, man.

man, subs like that make you wanna pull your hair out, been there with a hvac guy who didnt check superheat and fried a compressor on a trane unit. north jersey jobs are already a pain with those old floors, and now youre stuck eatin the cost? sucks, hope you find a solid one soon.

Subs like that are the reason half the flooring crews in my area went under last year, total cancer on the industry.
