Filed my taxes last week and the CPA said I couldn't fully deduct a $500 Milwaukee track saw I used for all my LVT installs this year because it wasn't exclusively for business. I'm a solo flooring guy doing mostly commercial jobs, and this crap is eating into my profit margins. Anyone else run into this with tool deductions on Schedule C?

don't assume you can deduct that milwaukee saw without keepin' rock solid records of every business hour on it, i saw a guy get audited and hit with back taxes last year.

yeah, same bs with my cpa last year on a dewalt router, said it couldnt be fully deducted cause i might use it on personal stuff... feels like theyre nickel and diming us solo guys.

my cpa told me i cant deduct my beer runs cause thats 'personal fuel' for the jobsite, but hey at least the irs lets us write off the hangovers.

tell your cpa that saw's seen more lvt action than your ex's dating profile, so deduct the damn thing already. next time buy a cheap harbor freight knockoff and call it business-only to screw the irs right back.

track your business usage with a mileage-style log for that milwaukee saw and deduct the percentage next year; my cpa swears by it to avoid the irs bullshit.

dont assume you can deduct that milwaukee saw fully without keepin detailed logs of business vs personal use, i saw a guy get audited and lose thousands over sloppy records like that.

i write off every damn tool i buy for my sod jobs, including that $600 milwaukee string trimmer, by keeping a separate business credit card and logging every receipt - got my full deduction last year no questions asked.

yeah man, same bullshit with my cpa on a dewalt saw last year, said i had to depreciate it over five years even though its basically glued to my truck. feels like they're nickel and diming us solos to death on schedule c.

screw that cpa noise, ive been deducting my milwaukee saws 100% on schedule c for years even if i use em at home sometimes and the irs hasnt batted an eye yet.

goddamn irs rules are a nightmare, ive had the same bs with my dewalt tools last year and ended up only deducting 60% even though i barely use em at home. sucks when youre trying to keep margins decent on commercial gigs and they hit you like this. my cpa just shrugged and said track everything better next time, but who has time for that crap? gonna switch to a new accountant who actually fights for us solos.

What exactly did you use the saw for outside of work? If it's over 50% business use, you might still get partial deduction.

Track it with a logbook or app like MileIQ but for tools, and you'll be golden next year. I deduct my Festool gear that way on flooring gigs.
