Out here in Dallas, had a lady call for a quick vinyl plank job in her kitchen, quoted her $2800 for 400 sq ft with trafficmaster tiles and underlayment. She showed up with a coupon from some sale thinking it'd cover the whole thing, turns out she misunderstood and figured install was included free like a side of fries. Me and my helper just stood there cracking up while she argued, ended up doing it for $2200 after the laugh.

man, these homeowners think we're running a charity with their coupons and freebie expectations. i've had so many jobs where they show up with some home depot sale flyer acting like the install's on the house, total BS. we all gotta start educating these folks before they waste our time even more.

i finally started quoting a flat $2/sq ft minimum just to shut down the coupon clowns, and damn if it hasn't weeded out the cheapskates while filling my schedule with solid jobs.

next time lay out the quote in writing with install costs broken out clear as day so there's no room for 'free fries' misunderstandings.

glue down vinyl like that trafficmaster stuff holds up way better against water than floating if you use a good hard set adhesive, i had a similar job where the kitchen got flooded from a leaky faucet and it didnt bubble at all. make sure you level the subfloor first with a self-leveling compound, saves you headaches later on the 400 sq ft. for dallas humidity, id go with pressure sensitive only if the clients on a budget, but hard set is worth the extra time. we always prime the concrete too, prevents any lifting around the edges. ended up charging a bit more for that prep on my last install, but the customer was thrilled no issues after a year. if she calls back for maintenance, tell her to clean with a ph neutral solution to keep it looking sharp.

those coupon-hunting homeowners are the worst, always thinkin labor's free like we're their personal slaves. dropped a similar job last month when she tried that crap, now i make em sign off on the quote first.

did she end up taking the deal or did she bail on the job?

damn homeowners these days think every install's free if they clip a coupon, it's like they believe we're just laborers handing out fries with the flooring, pisses me off every time.

next time lay out the install cost separate from the material discount on your quote so they cant mix em up, i learned that the hard way on a job last week.

next time lay out the install cost separate from the material quote on paper so they cant misread it like that.

dont ever discount like that for coupon misunderstandings, had a customer in a similar mess try to walk after we started and it turned into a lien nightmare that cost me more than the job.

goddamn homeowners these days think everything's a steal, like install's just some bonus perk with their cheapo trafficmaster. i've had so many show up with lowes coupons acting like we're the ones ripping them off when they can't read a quote to save their lives. it's infuriating how they argue for 20 minutes over $600 when we're busting our asses laying it perfectly. blame the big box stores for their fine print BS that confuses everyone. we end up eating the discount just to get out of there without a scene. and then they leave a shitty review if the color's a shade off. same crap in every kitchen job, man.

customers like that are why i stopped honoring coupons altogether, just a waste of my time explaining basic shit. you were too nice knocking off $600 imo.

People like that are why I started charging a stupidity fee on top of the quote, keeps the crazies away.
