Was laying out luxury vinyl plank in this old Phoenix apartment last week, quoting $2,800 for the full 800 sq ft job including underlayment and trim. Got the circular saw going to notch around a plumbing vent and nicked the water line under the subfloor by like an inch, water spraying everywhere before I shut it off. Luckily the tenant was out and I caught it quick, but man that could've turned into a $5k flood claim real fast. Anyone else had a close call like that on a flooring gig?

been there brother, nicked a water line on a reno in austin last year and the whole crew was knee deep in callbacks for weeks. bosses rushing us always leads to that crap, makes you double check everything twice now. sucks but it keeps us sharp.

always run a stud finder with pipe detection before cutting subfloor in older spots like that, saved me from a similar mess on a remodel last month.

god damn it, i was ripping up old carpet in a remodel last month and my osculating tool buzzed right through a hidden gas line, had the whole place smelling like hell for hours before i could air it out.

damn, had a similar screwup in an old az rental last month where i sliced a cast iron drain line trying to undercut with the osc multi-tool and spent three hours bailing water before calling the plumber, pissed me off big time.

always run a stud finder or tap out the subfloor first in those old az builds, or you'll be knee-deep in crap like that every time.

always scan for lines with a stud finder first, saved my ass on a similar subfloor cut last month. if it's pvc, the noise is different when you tap around it.

I've had that happen with a Milwaukee track saw on a tile job - always double-check with a stud finder first, saved my ass twice now.

damn landlords in phoenix never label those subfloor lines right, setting us up for disaster every time we rip into an apartment job.
