I'm up in north jersey wrapping up a big remodel addition, and the garage door quotes are killing me. HD quoted me $3.5k for a decent CHI door, but the local contractor's guy wants $10-13k installed, which blows my $10k budget for two doors outta the water - the second one's half size so cheaper but still. Their opener suggestion is a LiftMaster at $800 a pop, way more than the Chamberlain belt drive I already have from HD for like $120 on sale. The garage door shop said my Chamberlain won't play nice with their CHI doors or some NW Door setup, but I swapped a noisy Genie chain drive for one in my old house in an evening and it was smooth as hell. Should I shop around more or just bite the bullet with HD despite the eternal torture of their millwork crew? That price gap is three weeks pay for me, I'd deal with the headaches.

Man, same boat here last year on a zone 5 job - went with the cheap opener route and now it's acting up every cold snap, wish I'd listened to the pro about compatibility.

Yeah, compatibility issues bite you in the ass later. I always push for matching brands upfront, saved a buddy from a $2k redo last month.

screw matching brands, liftmaster is universal enough that I've mixed em with genie openers on half my jobs and never had a compatibility headache.
