bookkeeping hell in garage door service who else hates this crap

man i run a small garage door outfit and bookkeeping is kicking my ass every month. im using quickbooks online but it doesnt play nice with tracking parts like clopay panels or liftmaster openers and i end up spending hours reconciling inventory. last week i had to manually enter a bunch of torsion spring replacements and forgot to categorize the genie remotes which threw off my whole p&l. saw a guy in the contractor fight facebook group ranting about the same thing swearing by xero for service businesses. anyone got tips on integrating jobber with this stuff without losing your mind. tbh id rather be out installing chi doors than staring at spreadsheets all day.

same here brother quickbooks is a nightmare for parts tracking.

ugh tell me about it. i do painting but the inventory bs is universal pain.

commiserating hard. switched to freshbooks last year and its better for invoicing but still sucks for garage door specifics.

PSA: dont ignore your books or the irs will come knocking hard.

we use service titan and their bookkeeping module is decent but pricey af.

watched tommy mello on youtube talk about outsourcing this crap it saved his sanity.

im pissed at how much time it steals from actual work.

hit 1m in revenue this year and bookkeeping finally clicked when i got a cpa on retainer.

sucks man especially when youre solo.

insurance companies eating everyone alive on top of bad books.

frustrated as hell with the categorization glitches.

asked this on r/homeimprovement and got mixed advice but yeah books are brutal.

customer called at midnight about a stuck liftmaster and im like dude im balancing sheets.

corporate greed pushing software prices up while we drown in data.

proud of my setup now using wave its free and handles basic garage door invoicing fine.
