Man, I'm so pissed at how the IRS treats us garage door guys as glorified handymen for tax purposes. Last year I replaced a ton of LiftMaster torsion springs and extension sets, but trying to deduct the cost of my new Wayne Dalton stock is a nightmare without proper contracts. Saw a rant in The Contractor Fight group about this, and it's the same BS everywhere. We bust our asses hauling Clopay panels up three flights for condos, yet the self-employment tax eats half our profit before we even see it. Anyone using QuickBooks to track mileage on those service calls? I tried but it still feels like we're getting hosed. Tommy Mello talks about this on his podcast, says to structure as an S-corp early. FML, thought going solo would mean more take-home but taxes are killing the dream.

Same here, tried deducting my truck wraps last quarter and the accountant said nah because I didn't have a formal agreement with the vendor. It's total crap, makes you wanna just go back to working for a big chain like Overhead Door.
