Man, just wrapped up a basic spring swap on a Clopay model in north Jersey and the licensing crap cost me $800 in fees and delays. We're talking about a $450 job that should've been done in two hours but inspectors dragged it out for a week checking every damn hinge and opener alignment. I'm an apprentice still learning the ropes, but this BS is making me question if garage door work is worth it up here with all the local regs. The client was pissed waiting so long, and I had to eat the extra time. Anyone else dealing with this in the northeast? Feels like they're nickel and diming us on every permit now. Gotta figure out a better way to quote these to cover the hidden costs.

Screw the inspectors, they're just power-tripping on small jobs like garage doors to justify their salaries. Every time I see a north Jersey tag on a permit, I know it's gonna be a headache.

Add in the fees and it's pure theft. Build a 15% buffer into your quotes for that area.

Buffer helps, but also get pre-approved permits for common jobs like springs. Saves half the wait time.

Quote the permit costs separately upfront so the client knows. I use a line item for 'local licensing fees' on my estimates.

For Clopay installs, check if your supplier offers any permit fast-track partnerships in Jersey. Cut my wait from a week to two days last month.

Overhead's overhead, but complaining about $800 on a $450 job? Just jack your rates 20% and call it even. Clients pay for the hassle.

Those inspectors are ruining the trade, turning quick fixes into marathons. Seen too many guys quit over this nonsense.

I feel you, brother. Same crap here with every door opener install turning into a paperwork nightmare. Hang in there.
