I'm a garage door tech been doing this 12 years, and lately I've been trying to upsell add-ons like smart openers and backup batteries during installs. Had a guy last week want a new Clopay door for his two-car setup, quoted him $1800 for the install including the torsion spring upgrade, but couldn't get him to bite on the Chamberlain myQ hub for remote access. We're in Texas so the heat warps a lot of these older panels, and I figure tying in a camera system could prevent break-ins, but customers just nod and move on. Watched this YouTube vid from Project Farm testing different opener motors, made me think about bundling more tech, but my close rate is crap. Frustrated as hell, feels like leaving money on the table every time. Anyone got scripts or pitches that actually work for this?

i tried upselling ring cameras once, told the guy it'd catch his wife sneaking in late ... he just laughed and said he already knew her tricks. shoulda stuck to doors, my close rate's worse than a drunk apprentice swinging a hammer.

try pitching the wyze cam bundle with the myQ for $150 extra, tell 'em it lets you check the garage from your phone and scares off porch pirates with motion lights, closed three upsells last month that way.

homeowners these days are so damn cheap, i pitch that wyze bundle on every myq install and half of em act like you're robbing em blind for adding real security. its infuriating when theyre fine dropping 500 on the door but balk at 150 to keep porch pirates out. seen too many jobs where they regret skimping later, garage wide open to every lowlife in the neighborhood. screw that, im done with the penny-pinchers.

buddy, i tried upselling cameras once and the homeowner straight up asked if i was gonna install a drone too, like i'm running a damn sky net operation out of my service van. told him the ring spotlight cam would catch his porch pirates red-handed, but he just laughed and said his dog barks louder than any alarm. we're leaving cash on the table alright, but these texas folks act like adding tech is the same as asking for their firstborn. shoulda started with the myq hub demo on my phone, show em how it pings their beer in the garage before they even get home. next time i'll throw in a fake break-in story from the neighborhood, make em sweat a little. NGL, my close rate's about as good as my golf swing, which is to say crap. you ever try bundling it with a free battery backup? that might hook em without sounding like a pushy salesman. 😂

try pitching the myQ hub as a 'break-in alarm that texts your phone in real time' instead of just remote access, closed three upsells last month by tying it to texas heat making panels easy targets for smash and grabs.

don't bundle cameras without checking your liability first, had a job where the liftmaster secure view crapped out during a break-in and the homeowner sued me for not warning about the wifi dropouts. you're in texas, heat fries electronics faster than anywhere, so one glitch and you're on the hook for thousands. stick to openers till you get coverage that actually pays out.

man i feel that frustration, tried upselling a myq to a lady last month and she just stared at me like i was trying to sell her a spaceship... customers these days wanna keep it basic and cheap.

man, same shit here in the garage game, i pitch that liftmaster secure view every time and customers just smile and say no thanks. feels like we're givin away free security lessons instead of makin the upsell.

man, i feel that frustration every damn time i try to upsell extras on a roof job and they just shut down. been there with security tie-ins, feels like youre leaving cash on the table but customers wont bite no matter what.

damn homeowners these days just want the bare minimum and screw the tech upgrades that'd actually save their ass from theft. it's like they think texas heat is the only problem, not the idiots breaking in for their tools and bikes.

goddamn homeowners in texas always act like security's optional til their tools get jacked from the garage, then theyre pissed we didnt push harder on that myq setup.

damn homeowners these days just want the cheapest fix and screw the smart stuff, had a similar job where i pitched a liftmaster camera bundle for $500 extra and the guy laughed it off like i was trying to rob him. feels like we're wasting our breath on these tightwads every time.

Bundle it as a package deal, like 'full smart home setup for $250 more' - I pitch it as peace of mind after showing a quick demo on my phone, closes 60% for me.

Demos are key but watch out for warranty voids if the camera wiring messes with the opener's electronics - had a claim last year that cost me $500 in callbacks. Stick to manufacturer-approved integrations only.
