just wrapped up siding a ranch house in the burbs, all standing seam aluminum panels, looked perfect till the next rain. now its oil canning like crazy, waves popping up everywhere from the temp swings. client is pissed, says it looks like i used cheap crap. anyone got quick fixes without ripping it all off? seams are locked tight, no dents yet but im worried. hate when metal breathes like this after install.

try pop riveting some furring strips behind the panels to stiffen em up.

rivets? nah, thatll just make more holes for leaks. use seam rollers to flatten the waves instead.

dents are worse than canning. had a hail storm dent mine last summer, had to heat gun the spots and massage em back.

oil canning is normal on thin gauge aluminum, client stories always blow it up. tell em its cosmetic, not structural.

for dents, silicone filler works in a pinch but looks tacky.

i always pre-bend panels with a brake to minimize canning from the start. saves headaches later. clients dont notice if you dont point it out.

disagree with rivets, thatll void any warranty. just wait it out, aluminum settles after a month or so. had same issue on a commercial build, went away on its own.

oil canning and dents both? sounds like poor install. check your clip spacing, too far apart and itll wave. mine never can after i went to 12 inch centers.
