Been running my general handyman side hustle solo for years, but finally hired this guy to help with bigger jobs. He shows up with crap lumber from Home Depot that warps the second it hits moisture, turning a simple backyard fence into a $1200 redo nightmare. Watched a Home RenoVision video the other day on sourcing better materials, and yeah, wish I'd stuck to that advice before bringing him on. Now I'm back to one-man operations, but at least I'm not eating these losses anymore.

man, been there with a helper who grabbed that warped home depot crap and turned a quick deck job into a total redo headache. sucks having to eat the loss and go solo again, but better than dealing with the BS every time.

never let a helper source materials on their own, i saw a guy lose his whole contract over warped home depot pine that split in the first rain. stick to 84 lumber or you'll be ripping out redo jobs every damn time.

fml, i had a helper pull the same crap last summer with warped home depot 2x4s on a deck job and it cost me 800 bucks to fix his mess, never again.

next time source your lumber from a real yard like 84 lumber, their pressure treated stuff holds up way better without warping on you. i learned that the hard way on my first solo fence job last summer, cost me an extra day to fix it. stick to brands that actually kiln dry properly and you wont have to redo half your work.

man, i feel that pain all too often with helpers grabbin whatever's cheapest at home depot, turns a decent job into a warped mess you gotta tear out. had one guy do the same crap on a deck last summer, cost me a full weekend to fix and the customer was pissed. shoulda vetted his material choices better before lettin him loose. back to solo here too, at least no more headaches like that.

hired a helper once who thought fence posts were optional, ended up with a leanin' tower of pisa in the backyard that the neighbor's dog used as a scratching post. 😂 i told him 'bud, this aint modern art, its a fence,' but he just grinned like he'd invented the wheel. next day, customer calls screamin' about her poolside 'installation' blockin' the view, and im out $800 fixin' his masterpiece. shoulda stuck to solo ops from the jump, but hey, at least i got a story for the crew now. your home depot lumber fiasco sounds like my kinda bad luck, man. warpin' faster than a politicians promises. fired him on the spot after that, and wouldnt you know it, business picked up without the drama. live and learn, or in my case, laugh and learn.

damn, i hired a helper once who thought home depot scraps were 'good enough' for a deck job and i ended up replacing the whole thing after two months of rain turned it into a sagging mess.

What kinda lumber did he grab that was so bad? I had a similar issue with a newbie sub once.

Man, that sucks, I've been there with unreliable help turning easy jobs into money pits. Felt every bit of that frustration last summer.
