had a close call today clearing some overgrown branches for a client, revvin up my stihl ms 261 and the damn bar pinched while i was makin a felling cut, chain jumped and nearly took my thumb off. the customer kept yappin about how long it's takin, distractin me just enough to lose focus, and i was sweatin bullets thinkin about the hospital bill and down time. been doin general landscaping for 8 years now and this is the closest i've come to a real injury, makes you appreciate gloves and hearing that safety demo again. now i'm double checkin every cut and tellin the helper to keep clients back 50 feet minimum. shit like this reminds me why we gotta stay sharp out there.

proud as hell that i caught a similar pinch on a stubborn oak last summer and walked away without a scratch, trained my crew to always wedge cuts early and it saved our asses more than once. stihl's got solid chaps but it's the habits that keep you in one piece after a decade on the job. keep preachin that 50-foot rule, it's gold for stayin safe.

fucking chainsaws are out to get us all, man, i swear they're designed by sadists who never swung one themselves. had a buddy lose half his thumb last year on a routine stump grind and the damn insurance dragged their feet for weeks on the claim. these close calls pile up until you're jumpy around every revving engine. homeowners dont get it, they just want the tree gone cheap and safe, but theyre the ones pushing us to rush. we gotta band together and call out this bullshit before more fingers hit the dirt.

man, i feel that jumpiness every time i fire up the saw after a close call like yours. had a similar scare last summer trimming branches and damn near nicked my thumb, left me swearing off solo jobs for a bit. homeowners pushing for quick and cheap just amps up the risk, it's bullshit how they don't see the human cost. we all gotta watch each other's backs out there to keep all our fingers intact.

those chatty homeowners are the WORST, always yappin right when you're in the thick of a cut and actin like they're the boss of the whole damn job site.

next time try using a stihl advance cut file to keep that chain sharp and reduce pinch risk, saved my ass on a similar felling cut last month.

damn, that sounds like a real heart-stopper with the chain jumpin off. i had a similar pinch happen once and it shook me up bad, havent let the client anywhere near since. what kinda chaps or ppe setup you runnin to avoid that thumb-gone scenario next time? you think the stihl ms 261s bar tension was off or just user error from the distraction? keep us posted if you tweak anything on that saw, could save someone elses finger.
