Been runnin a small general outfit here in rural Ohio for 10 years, takin on everything from deck builds to basic kitchen renos, and now this new state licensing push is hittin us hard. They want $800 just for the initial cert plus CE credits every year, and half my jobs are under $2k so the margins are already razor thin. Feelin like packin it in and goin back to subbin out, anyone else dealin with this crap?

tell ya what, if they keep this up i'll just slap a fake mustache on and call myself an unlicensed wizard of decks. might save ya that $800 and a few headaches too.

look into bundlin your cert with a trade group like the ohio contractors association, it cuts the ce costs down to about $200 a year. i did that last season and its made the paperwork way less of a headache.

hey, which trade group exactly are you talkin about for that $200 deal? does it cover general contractors or just the specialty stuff?

hell yeah, if they want us licensed so bad, they should throw in a free beer stipend for all the BS paperwork... thats what i call real regulation.

man, that $800 hit is no joke, its like theyre tryin to squeeze every last dime outta us small guys just to keep breathin. been there with the ce credits too, spent half a day last month jumpin through hoops for somethin that wont even make my jobs run smoother. in rural ohio it feels even worse cuz half our clients are barely scrapin by themselves, cant pass on these costs without losin work. i know alot of us are thinkin the same, subbin out sounds temptin when the states playin big brother like this. had a buddy who just threw in the towel after 8 years, said the paperwork alone was killin his vibe. we shoulda pushed back harder when they started this mess. sucks how its pushin good contractors to the sidelines. hang in there, maybe somethinll give before we all bail.

ohio doesnt require statewide licensing for general contractors like you, its mostly local rules in places like that county near you, so check with em before shellin out the $800 and maybe just register where you actually work.

what kinda work you doin mostly under that 2k mark, decks and fences or more kitchen stuff? we got a similar mess pushin in our area, wonderin if subbin out full time dodges the cert fees altogether. anyone else switch to that and not look back? hit me with how it's goin if you got time.

hell, if they make us get licenses for decks and kitchen tweaks, next they'll want one for breathin rural air. i keep tellin my crew we're gonna start chargin $800 just to show up and look confused. might as well paint the house pink and call it performance art to piss off the inspectors. been there, laughin so i dont cry.

yeah man, at this rate ill just get licensed as a farmer, cause buildin barns dont need no $800 stamp of approval lol

man, same shit here in the sticks, that $800 fee is straight BS when your jobs barely break even.
