Launched this referral thing last month thinking it'd boost my general landscaping gigs, but it's bombing hard out here in north jersey with all the picky homeowners. Offered $200 off the next mow for every buddy they send my way using my Husqvarna zero-turn, but so far only two referrals and one was a total flake who ghosted the estimate. Spent $500 on flyers and door hangers already, and it's like nobody cares about saving a few bucks on yard work. The cold weather's not helping, everyone's hunkered down, but damn, I figured word of mouth would kick in faster. Anyone got tweaks to make this less of a flop? Feels like I'm just burning cash on perks that ain't landing.

dont sink more cash into flyers this time of year, i watched a buddy lose his shirt chasing north jersey referrals when everyone's too busy with leaves and holiday prep to care.

referral programs like yours are a scam in landscaping, north jersey folks wont bite on discounts when they can just hire the kid down the street for half the price. ditch the flyers and hit up the local fb groups instead, thats where the real leads hide.

try upping that discount to $300 off the next mow and hand out flyers at the local garden center instead of door hangers, gets you warmer leads. i've pulled in 5-6 referrals that way without wasting cash on cold knocks.

those north jersey homeowners are the worst, always too cheap or too lazy to bother with referrals even when you're saving 'em a couple hundred bucks. spent a fortune on my own flyers last summer and got squat, makes you wanna chuck the whole damn program.

man, same crap here, spent weeks pushing referrals and got jack shit back, just pisses me off wasting time on ungrateful clients

what kinda incentives were you offering those husqvarna referrals?

Try tying the referral to something seasonal like free fall cleanup, that pulled in three solid leads for me last year. Make the perk feel exclusive, not just another discount.

What's your cutoff for the cleanup? I don't wanna get stuck doing a $600 job for peanuts.

These damn clients in the burbs act like referrals are beneath them, all they want is rock bottom prices while we bust our asses with equipment that costs a fortune

exactly, it's like they think we're hobbyists, not running a business that keeps their lawns from looking like a junkyard

yep, and then they bitch when you raise rates to cover the referral losses, total BS

How many doors did you hit with those flyers? Might need to double down on digital for jersey crowds.

ugh, referrals bombing sucks, had a similar flop with my painting side hustle, felt like starting over every time

we're all in the same boat with these tightwads, north jersey especially, they nickel and dime you to death on every job

tried switching to email follow-ups after the initial referral ask, cut my no-shows in half but still not the goldmine I hoped

yeah man, that grind hits different when the referrals dry up, been there and it wears you down quick
