Started my first day as a handyman apprentice yesterday and the boss had me hauling a 50lb box of DeWalt drill bits up three flights of stairs in an old walkup, no elevator. By noon I'm soaked in sweat and questioning my life choices, then he hits me with 'that's $75 for the set if we need extras.' Now my back's killing me and I'm wondering if this gig's worth the $18/hr starting pay.

dude $18/hr for haulin' 50lb boxes up three flights is BS, im tellin' ya demand $25 or walk, these bosses screw apprentices every time thinkin' we're desperate.

welcome to the club, kid - first week on my handyman gig the boss had me lugging a 60lb Ridgid pipe wrench up four flights, thought i was training for the olympics. by lunch i was huffing like an old man and he just laughs, 'builds character, right?' now your back's toast already, but stick it out and you'll be the one making the new guy sweat. trust me, that $18/hr beats flipping burgers... barely.

man, bosses like that treat apprentices like mules, charging $75 for deWalt bits while paying you peanuts at $18/hr. its the same BS everywhere, no respect for the grunt work that keeps their asses outta the dirt.

fuckin bosses like that make me wanna quit every damn day, throwin new guys into the deep end with no warmup. my first week i was haulin 60lb bags of mortar up a ladder in july heat and the cheap bastard wouldnt even spring for a pulley system. its all about squeezin every penny outta us while they sit in the ac countin their cash. $18/hr? thats a joke for that kinda abuse, man.

man, i feel that shit every day, bosses throwin us under the bus for a buck. $18/hr in july heat aint worth the back pain, shoulda walked after the first ladder haul.

Build up that core strength quick, try some plank holds 3x a day before work - saved my ass in the first year.

I feel you, first days suck but you'll toughen up fast. Mine had me scrubbing grout for 8 hours straight.

Same here, boss threw me into demo work with a sledge right off the bat, no mercy.

Those early beatdowns make you or break you, I quit my first gig after a week of that crap.
