Just got hit with a $4500 annual premium for general liability insurance through Travelers because I do a lot of ladder work and minor electrical fixes as a handyman. Thought it'd be cheaper since I don't touch anything major like HVAC or plumbing, but nope, they jacked it up. Now I'm second-guessing if I should just drop it and take the risk on small gigs.

don't skimp on GL, i saw a buddy get sued over a loose shelf he installed and it cost him his truck. stick with it.

fuck these insurers, they raise rates every year while claims go nowhere.

it's all about the lawyers now, premiums up 30% here too.

handymen don't need full coverage, just basic stuff for ladders and such. fight 'em on the quote.

nah, that's asking for trouble with clients demanding proof.

been insured 10 years, no claims, and it saved my ass twice on minor slip and falls.

try State Farm, got mine for half that on similar coverage.

GL is non-negotiable for me, paid off big when a client tripped on my extension cord.

i hate how they lump us handymen with full trades, rates should be tiered better.

shop around on sites like Insureon, saved me 20% last year on my policy.

same boat, my premium doubled after one small claim on a door install.

SharkBite or not, insurers don't care, they just see 'handyman' and hike it.

bundled my auto and GL together, dropped the total by $800 easy.

get a higher deductible to lower the premium, works for most of us.
