been in the Chicago area my whole career and figured id try something dumb to drum up more handyman work like fixing sagging fences and patching decks. i made some memes with my milwaukee drill photoshopped into clown outfits and posted em in Handyman Nation group, saying 'when your fence falls over like my ex's patience'. thought it'd get a chuckle and maybe a lead or two. next thing you know, my messages are flooded with folks wanting me to fix their cat doors at 2am or build a treehouse from scratch with zero budget. one guy even asked if i could 'handyman' his divorce papers lol. ngl, its hilarious but im wasting hours sorting real jobs from the weirdos. anyone else tried funny social media for marketing handyman services? saw a tommy mello video where he said humor sells but damn this is next level.
post pics of before and after fence jobs with a funny caption, keeps it on brand without the chaos.

yeah but FB groups are full of bots and crazies, stick to google business profile for real leads.
D
DoorJamJam2⚒️ Journeyman6mo

lmao your memes sound gold, but yeah the weirdo clients are the price we pay for going viral.
N
NailBiter2⚒️ Journeyman6mo
41
price we pay? more like the handyman tax, every funny post attracts ten nutjobs.
H
HammerTimeHank3⚒️ Journeyman6mo
17
handyman tax is spot on, i quit memes after one lady wanted me to install a moat around her yard.
T
TenYearVet9⭐ Expert6mo
4
moat? thats some medieval handyman shit right there.
T
TarheelTiler7⚒️ Journeyman6mo

tried the same with deck staining gigs, got a call to paint a school bus instead. frick that noise.

DustBunnyHunter6⭐ Expert6mo

sorting real jobs from weirdos is half the battle in this biz, especially with social media.
T
ThermostatTech⚒️ Journeyman6mo
5
half? more like 80%, but the one good lead makes it worth it sometimes.
C
CircuitSurfer⚒️ Journeyman6mo
20
80% is generous, feels like 95% crap calls after a viral post.
D
DoorOpenerDave⚒️ Journeyman5mo
32
viral post my ass, most just get three likes from your mom and the group admin.
S
SpraySquad2⚒️ Journeyman5mo
32
hate when marketing turns into babysitting randos, focus on targeted ads for handyman stuff like fence repairs.
P
PlumbDumb⭐ Expert5mo
21
targeted ads cost money tho, memes are free chaos at least.
G
GreenThumbGuru3⚒️ Journeyman5mo
51
same here man, feels good to laugh but damn the follow-up is a grind.
D
DrainDragon8⚒️ Journeyman5mo
18
your ex's patience line killed me, but yeah protect that inbox with filters.
E
EaveEater2⚒️ Journeyman5mo
6
filters? fb doesnt have good ones, just block and move on.
H
HueHustler2⚒️ Journeyman5mo
16
block and move on is the handyman way, learned that the hard way.
S
SudsAndScrubs2⚒️ Journeyman5mo
21
handyman way indeed, but still sucks when a good meme flops into spam.
T
TermiteTerminator⚒️ Journeyman5mo
55
funny marketing works if you niche it, like only fence memes for fence jobs.
S
SudsSquad⚒️ Journeyman5mo
26
niche it tight, i do door installs and only post door humor, cuts the bs by half.
B
BoltBoss2⭐ Expert5mo
4
half? lucky, my general handyman posts still drown me in oddball requests.
R
RollerRogue2⚒️ Journeyman5mo
29
oddball requests are the spice, but yeah too much spice burns you out.
H
HammerTimeGuy⭐ Expert4mo

im over here in Handyman Nation seeing the same crap, everyone thinks memes = free labor.
V
VentMaster30002🔧 Apprentice4mo
25
free labor dreams, wake up sheeple, we charge for that fence fix.
P
PipeDreamer15⚒️ Journeyman4mo
24
charge double for the weirdos, turns em away quick.
C
ComboKey⚒️ Journeyman4mo
5
double? triple, make em regret the 2am call.
F
FlushForce⚒️ Journeyman4mo
20
regret is right, had a guy want me to handyman his golf swing once.
J
JoistJockey7⚒️ Journeyman4mo
2
golf swing? thats a new low even for handyman horror stories.
F
FixItFelix9⚒️ Journeyman4mo
18
horror stories build character, or so i tell myself after these gigs.
C
ConduitCrafter⭐ Expert4mo
27
character my ass, just builds resentment towards social media.
B
BoxHauler⚒️ Journeyman4mo
32
resentment is real, but gotta market somehow as a solo handyman.
L
LiftLegend⚒️ Journeyman4mo
29
solo life means all marketing falls on you, memes or not.
T
TrimTim⚒️ Journeyman4mo
23
falls on you hard, especially when they backfire like this.
B
BugBlaster8⚒️ Journeyman4mo
22
backfire big time, stick to yard signs for fence work.
G
GutterGuru⚒️ Journeyman4mo
22
yard signs work steady, no meme drama.
S
SpotlessSam2⭐ Expert3mo
21
steady is key, i get consistent deck patch leads that way.
S
SparkPlugJoe2⚒️ Journeyman3mo
40
consistent beats chaotic every time for us handymen.
W
WattTheHeck21⚒️ Journeyman3mo
33
chaotic is fun til its not, now i just do google ads.
L
LiftMaster3⚒️ Journeyman3mo
17
google ads changed my game, no more clown requests.
P
PickPro⚒️ Journeyman3mo
53
clown requests gone, real paying customers in.
D
DrainDiver5⚒️ Journeyman3mo
5
paying customers? dream on, still get the occasional weirdo.
S
SpringSpecialist3⭐ Expert3mo
23
occasional is manageable, better than meme floods.
A
AntAnnihilator⭐ Expert3mo
24
manageable yeah, but i miss the laughs sometimes.
K

G

real leads only from now on, lesson learned.
M
MulchMaster⚒️ Journeyman3mo
22
lesson learned the hard way, like all good handyman tales.
P
PipeLord42030⚒️ Journeyman3mo
25
hard way indeed, chicago winters aint got time for this bs.
F
FlushKing⚒️ Journeyman2mo
25
bs is right, focus on what pays the bills.
C
CircuitScreamer⭐ Expert2mo
54
pays the bills > funny but useless posts.
N
NotAnElectrician21⚒️ Journeyman2mo
25
useless posts suck, but hey at least you tried something new.
N
NotAnElectrician9⭐ Expert2mo

tried and failed spectacularly, classic handyman marketing.
P
PlankPro⚒️ Journeyman2mo
23
classic indeed, we all got a story like that.
D

22
stories like that keep the community going, share more.
A

26
community yeah, saw similar rants in r/handyman too.
D
DuctDoctor10⚒️ Journeyman2mo
19
r/handyman is full of these marketing mishaps.
D
DuctTapeKing⚒️ Journeyman2mo
19
mishaps make the best posts, keeps it real.
P
PipeDreamer18⭐ Expert2mo

real is right, better than polished bs.
R

14
polished bs doesnt get you fence jobs anyway.
G
GutterGuru3⚒️ Journeyman2mo
16
fence jobs come from word of mouth mostly.
C
CastIronHater⭐ Expert1mo
14
word of mouth gold, memes just silver at best.
C
CastIronKiller⚒️ Journeyman1mo
2
silver? more like fool's gold for us.
Z
ZapZapZoe⚒️ Journeyman1mo
57
fool's gold hurts when youre solo.
T

pin your meme posts to the top and add a pinned comment saying 'fence jobs only, no tire changes or lawn mowin' to weed out the weirdos. cuts the circus by 70% right off the bat.
