ten years slingin' tools around north jersey and this one client last summer takes the cake, had me fixin' up their leaky faucet with some milwaukee fittings and then they ghosted on the $750 bill for the whole kitchen reno patch job. started off nice enough, asked for a quick drywall patch and some caulking around the windows, but halfway through they kept addin' crap like 'while you're here can you hang these shelves too?' without adjustin' the quote. i should've walked when they started nitpickin' every little thing, sayin' the paint wasn't the right shade even though it matched their benjamin moore sample. ended up eatin' two days of time and had to file a small claims to get paid, but it taught me to always get 50% upfront on jobs over $500 no matter how sweet they seem. saw a similar rant in the handyman nation facebook group last month, buncha guys sharin' stories about scope creep turnin' into nightmares. if you're dealin' with pushy clients, document every change request in writin' or you'll be screwed. also, watched that tommy mello video on client management, he swears by set boundaries from the jump.

never trust a handshake deal on add-ons, always get it in writing or walk away before it bites you.

that contractor fight group sounds like a lifesaver, gonna check it out right now. whats the worst red flag youve seen in a client that made you walk away immediately? ive had a couple where the vibe was just off from the first phone call.
