Been doing handyman work in the Carolinas for about 5 years now, mostly fixing up old decks and patching drywall with my DeWalt kit. Came across this YouTube video from a veteran handyman spilling the 5 things he wishes he knew starting out, and the upselling part hit hard. He talks about spotting opportunities like suggesting a full gutter clean after a roof repair instead of just patching, and how to price it without scaring folks off. Mentioned using simple add-on sheets with good/better/best options for jobs like installing new cabinet hardware with Sherwin-Williams paint touch-ups. Guy in the Handyman Nation Facebook group was raving about similar tactics for boosting revenue. Watched it on my break today and already thinking of trying it on my next fence repair gig. Anyone else use this to turn a $200 job into $400?

Haha, tried upselling a screen door repair to full window tinting once, customer laughed and said 'stick to hammers buddy'.

Goddamn homeowners these days nickel and dime you on every bolt, then complain it's not 'premium'. Screw that, upsell or walk.

Exactly, they're the worst when you try to add value like weatherproofing after a deck fix.

Yeah man, I feel you on those small jobs turning into bigger paydays if you play it right.

Start with a visual aid, like showing a before/after pic of a similar up sell on your phone. Works 70% of the time here. Use apps like Jobber to track what add-ons convert best.

For fence repairs, always quote the gate reinforcement as an upsell, it's low effort but adds $150 easy. Pair it with a quick termite check using your basic inspection kit to build trust.
