Subcontracting out drywall jobs in north jersey... what a clusterfuck

So I'm in north jersey, zone 5 winters mean everything takes twice as long, and I got this $2,500 gig to patch up a bunch of drywall in an old colonial. Hired a sub from the Handyman Nation group on Facebook who swore he was a pro with the DeWalt drywall kit, but the guy shows up late with half his tools missing and botches the mudding so bad I had to redo half of it myself. NGL, I watched that Tommy Mello video on scaling with subs, thought it'd be smooth, but now I'm out an extra day and pissed. Anyone else deal with flaky subs on smaller handyman fixes like this? Feels like herding cats sometimes. SMH, shoulda stuck to solo jobs.
