So today I'm installing this IKEA Billy bookshelf in a client's living room, basic gig right? Lady's been on my ass about it for weeks, wants it perfect for her cat collection. I show up with my DeWalt drill and level, everything's going smooth until she decides mid-job that the shelves need to be painted Benjamin Moore white first. We're in the Carolinas here so the humidity's making the paint dry slower than molasses, and now she's hovering with a tape measure checking every inch. By hour three, her hubby chimes in wanting built-in LED lights under the shelves, like we planned a whole remodel. I finally wrap it up after six hours, but not before she asks if I can fix the leaky faucet in the kitchen next. FML, handyman life's never dull with these folks. Saw a similar rant in Handyman Nation group last week, guy dealt with a client who wanted her porch swing reinforced for a pet pig.

Haha, sounds like my last gig where the client wanted me to 'just' trim a bush but ended up directing traffic like it's her personal parade.

lmao, parade? more like demolition derby with their 'suggestions'.

Proud of you for not walking off, I once finished a backyard cleanup and the client loved it so much they referred three neighbors right away.

Man, I feel that hovering client vibe, been there with garage door installs where they second-guess every bolt.

Those types are the worst, always adding 'one more thing' until the bill triples.

Same here, door hanging jobs turn into full room makeovers because they can't decide on hardware.

LOL, cat collection? Bet the shelf's more for the cats than her anyway.

For real, next she'll want a custom cat ladder.

Insurance companies love us for these escalating jobs, right? More liability every time.

Yeah, and premiums go up like clockwork.

Client like that last month tried to haggle after I fixed their safe lock, said it was 'too easy' to charge full rate.

I commiserate, just did a laminate floor patch and the lady kept vacuuming dust as I worked.

Dust? Try sawdust clouds from their 'helpful' sweeping.

PE firms buying up handyman services, soon we'll all be scripted robots for these clients.

Screw that, keep it small and tell 'em no.

Those LED add-ons? Always leads to wiring headaches I don't need.

Commiserating, had a similar paint delay on a trim job last week.

Felt that, one client turned a pest barrier install into a full yard redesign rant.

Why do they always wait till you're knee-deep to add features?

these homeowners think they're DIY experts but turn every job into a damn sideshow, constantly second-guessing us like we haven't been at this forever.

These clients are the reason rates keep climbing, can't work for peanuts anymore.
