Saw this reddit thread where some property owner is asking where to find handymen and how to pay us, and it got me fired up. I'm trying to build a referral program but cold outreach is just BS, wasting hours knocking on doors or cold calling folks who think I'm some scam artist. Last week I spent the whole afternoon hitting up neighborhood mailboxes with flyers about my services for fixing leaky faucets and hanging shelves, using my Milwaukee drill to demo a quick shelf install on the spot, but got zero callbacks. Everyone's on Nextdoor or whatever now, posting their own DIY crap or hiring from those lead gen sites that screw us over. Why bother with cold stuff when referrals from past clients are the only thing that sticks? Guy in Handyman Nation FB group said the same, cold calls just piss people off. Tommy Mello talks about this in his videos, focus on networks instead. It's rage-inducing how much time we waste on it.
