Just finished fixing this guy's busted DeWalt circular saw, quoted him $450 total including the new blade and labor, and the cheap bastard ghosted me after I handed it over. TBH, it's these small handyman gigs that make me wanna quit solo work and go back to subcontracting. Lesson learned: always get a deposit on anything over $200.

how'd you even track down the guy after he ghosted, or did you just eat the loss?

those cheapskate homeowners who ghost on $450 jobs are the WORST, always got some excuse about tight budgets but they got no problem dropping cash on junk from harbor freight.

Always take 50% upfront for jobs like that, saved me from a few deadbeats over the years.

Fuck these homeowners, they think we're hobbyists not pros charging for skills.

Exactly, had one pull the same crap on a fence repair, now I hit 'em with the deposit rule hard.

Same here man, lost a couple hundred on a similar tool fix last month, knees me in the gut every time.

It's the little losses that add up and piss you off the most, feel ya.

Screw that, I started using Jobber for contracts and it blocks the flakes before they waste my time.

Jobber's solid but the fees eat into small jobs, worth it tho for peace of mind.

Man, that sucks, but yeah deposits are non-negotiable now in my book.

I'm so over these lowballers treating us like free labor, time to raise my minimums across the board.

Haha, next time tell 'em the saw's haunted and charge extra for exorcism fees.

Never hand over the work without payment in hand, learned that the hard way on a ladder install.

Or just 'accidentally' drop the tool on their foot on the way out, problem solved lol.

Been there with a pest control patch job, stings but you gotta move on to the next one.

Saw a guy in Handyman Nation FB group post about using liens for stuff like this, might be worth a shot.

Ugh, that frustration hits different when it's your tools and time on the line.

Homeowners dodging bills is the real plague in this biz, we're all getting screwed over.

Lol, or bill 'em for the therapy session after dealing with their crap.

Enough with these payment dodgers, we need a handyman union or something to fight back.

Yeah the collective rage is real, saw a rant on r/handyman about this exact issue last week.
