been in the Carolinas my whole career, doing handyman fixes like deck repairs and drywall patches with my DeWalt tools, but these damn TikTok clowns are undercutting everyone. i saw some kid in Handyman Nation group posting quick videos of hanging shelves with Milwaukee drills and getting flooded with calls for $50 gigs that should pay $200. meanwhile im busting my ass on real jobs, like fixing leaky faucets and installing cabinet hardware, but homeowners hit me with 'i saw it on Insta for half the price'. its BS how these influencers make it look easy and screw over legit guys like us. asked on r/handyman if anyone else is dealing with this crap, got some nods but no real fixes. the algorithm favors the flashy stuff over actual work.

dont post videos of your jobs, itll just invite more cheapskates who think handyman work is a hobby.

block the time-wasters upfront, quote firm on phone for stuff like cabinet installs and stick to it.

had a guy show up with a printed tiktok 'tutorial' demanding i match the video price for a full deck repair, laughed him off the porch.

focus on google business profile instead, gets you serious leads for real handyman work like fence fixes.

try niching down to commercial handyman gigs, less social media noise there.

ugh this sucks, lost a steady client last month to some youtube hack promising quick drywall patches.

yep, the whole thing pisses me off, legit handymen get buried under the noise.

screw em, sharkbite fittings are trash anyway, but nah, social media handymen pushing crap tools is ruining it for all of us.
