Man, had a real heart-stopper last week hanging shelves in this old ranch house. Was using my DeWalt drill on a ladder, and the damn thing slipped right when I was torquing down a lag screw into what I thought was a solid stud. Ladder wobbled like crazy, nearly took a header into the coffee table below. Been in the Chicago area my whole career, and you learn quick that these old floors ain't always level. Double-checked with the stud finder after, turns out it was just plaster over lath, not even a real stud. Makes you think about all the times you've cut corners on safety gear. Anyone else got stories like that? Feels good to vent about the near-misses before they turn into hospital visits.

steel toes saved my ass more than once, but they suck in the summer heat.
