I've been doing odd jobs and small repairs for about 5 years now, and the biggest mistake I see new guys make is buying cheap drills that crap out after a few months. Go with the Milwaukee M18 right from the start - it's $150 but handles everything from hanging shelves to light demo without bogging down. Saved me from so many headaches on those quick fix-it calls.

Man, I tried a cheap Harbor Freight one on a fence repair job last year and it straight up died mid-screw. Felt like an idiot having to finish by hand while the customer watched.

Same here, brother. Threw mine in the trash after it smoked on a simple cabinet install. Now I stick to name brands or I'm screwed every time.
