Man, I'm so pissed about these referral setups everyone pushes for handyman work. Been doing this in the Chicago area my whole career, fixing leaky faucets and mounting shelves with my Milwaukee M18 drill, and I tried offering $50 gift cards for every successful referral on jobs like deck repairs or drywall patches. Customers sign up, promise to send their buddies for stuff like gutter cleaning or fence fixes, but half the time they flake and I get nothing. Worse, I gave a few leads to a sub for bigger installs like ceiling fans, and now they're undercutting me on the next-door neighbor's kitchen remodel. Saw a rant in Handyman Nation group about this crap, and someone mentioned Tommy Mello saying referrals work if you track 'em tight, but IMHO it's all BS when folks just take the discount and run. Anyone else dealing with this headache? FML.
